The Newsletter Generator: A Module “Made In Bysoft”

Lucas Liang | October 11, 2011

Newsletter Generator

During a Magento project of one of our clients, we were asked to set up a newsletter generator. This module allows us to select products from the catalogs directly from the Magento Back Office, and automatically add them into a predefined newsletter template.

1.1.1. Template of the newsletter

Zoning of the newsletter template

A specific template was integrated (the above image is only a draft). The header and the footer respect the graphical design of the site and several links allow the user to be redirected to the pages defined by the client.

The part “Our selection” highlights several products, while other products are sorted by different categories.

Each product displayed is clickable and redirects the user to the corresponding product page on the website. He can therefore see the product and add it to the cart with a single click.

1.1.2. Back Office

A new page “Generate newsletter” was added in the Magento Back Office, available under the section “Newsletter”.

The newsletter generator presents above all a list (in standard Magento format) of all products in the catalog.

The client will need to select the products which he wishes to see in the newsletter and add them into the list (newsletter).

Each added product is then classified in a table corresponding to its 1st level category, then the client can decide which product will be part of the “Selection” (the part for highlighting certain products).

To define a product as a “Selection” product, you will only need to check the corresponding checkboxes, and the product is immediately moved into the “Our Selection” table.

Finally, to complete the customization of this newsletter, you can give it a title (which will appear in the header) and add a text for description.

Once all the information entered, the client can generate the HTML code of this newsletter.

The code is then available in a specific area provided for this purpose, so he could copy and integrate it into their mailing tools.

A preview button will allow him to preview this newsletter in a new browser window, so that the client can validate the result displayed in real conditions.

This Newsletter Generator by Bysoft makes it possible to compose newsletters directly from the Ecommerce site, without making mistakes on the product tags, their photos, their URLs or their categories.
